The Willow Building is a 68,511 sq. ft., 4-story building most recently occupied fully in 2005/06. It has been utilized temporarily on occasions in the last 15 years but is currently not occupied and will be converted into a medium-security mental health institution for the Illinois Department of Human Resources.
The initial project began as a pointed assessment in regard to the elevator, sally port entrance, site fencing, chiller, and a few structural cracking concerns. Direction was given to re-assess the building and provide scope to achieve 2nd floor and later, 3rd floor occupancy.
This would include entire facility upgrades. The Site upgrades to include ADA accessible parking, accessible path to building, site security perimeter fencing, automated access-controlled gates with sally port entrances, site utilities, site security, and electrical and mechanical exterior equipment locations. First Floor upgrades include design of new patient intake area, administration offices, security center and infrastructure, employee break rooms, warming kitchen, and locker rooms. Second and Third Floor upgrades included designs for patient sleeping quarters, security stations, nurse stations, patient commons spaces, exam spaces, and kitchenettes. The Basement and Penthouse Floors include cleanup and demolition of spaces for new storage use, new infrastructure for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. The entire facility includes new mechanical systems, new plumbing and fixtures, new security systems including VSS and access control, new doors/frames and hardware, window upgrades, storefront system upgrades, secured and hardened lobby upgrades, environmental removal of hazardous materials, and information technology coordination with State of Illinois.
